Time whizzes by so rapidly. I could hardly get a breather.

May has truly been very fruitful- a month of many lessons and challenges; all the seemingly herculean tasks thrown at me have been resolved.

Alas, June is the month to chill a little- to heave a big sigh.

I will spend my time appropriately; to work hard and play just as hard if not harder.

Retrospectively, I have been working way too hard in the last 1 year.

Living life well is to strike a healthy balance between work and play.

Chinese New Year 2009

Reunion Dinner with my family at the Conrad Centennial Hotel, Singapore.

1.5 years have since passed, but the dining experience at the Golden Peony Restaurant (one of Singapore's finest Chinese restaurants) is truly unforgettable.

The famous Conrad Bear was served for dinner as well!

To the Chinese, the tossing of 'Yu Sheng' brings about a year of prosperity and abundance. The dish comprises of 'Yu' or fish; in most instances Salmon is used which symbolises wealth, and other condiments such as golden crackers that represent gold ingots.

This month is foreseeably a busy month for me.

It is going to be especially promising as there is so much I am doing that will be of substantial value to my future in the financial arena.

For starters, I have signed myself up for M1A and M6. Basically, these are modules accredited by the Institute of Banking and Finance- to equip me with the necessary product and regulatory knowledge to allow me to contribute more effectively to my financial career.

I always believe that self-renewal is critical, so as to enable one to seize opportunites that do not necessarily present themselves conspicuously.

Strike while the iron is hot; indeed, positive developments within our economy have translated into an upward trend in the coming months with regards to economic performance of the various entities in seemingly disparate industries- this will bode well for all.

A little milestone; the magic 7...

Today marks my 7th month on the job (counting days that is; 8 if we count the months instead). Yes, it is simply a job; not exactly a career the way I see it. Nonetheless, it calls for a celebration!

It has been 7 challenging but very fulfiling months of my banking 'career'! I can gladly say that I have grown so much professionally during that span of time. Also, time truly flies, yet I have not found the time to sit back and take a breather.

Indeed, the learning curve has been very steep. However, my credit analytical skills has improved by leaps and bounds. The quality of the credit cases I put up has also improved; earning accolades from the powers that be. :)

Notwithstanding all that, I am still at the crossroads of my life, however, I can take comfort in the fact that the choice of the destination is mine to make.

Dear friends,

It feels almost like a decade since I last pen down my thoughts in cyber-space. Life has truly been a whirlwind ride of sorts for the last few months of the previous decade.

Somehow, the adage that ‘time passes quicker as one grows older’ is more literal than it seems. However, I chose to think that as one grows older, one also becomes wiser. Apart from that thought being a consolation, it surely bears a nugget of truth.

A quick update:

I am currently a Business Relationship Manager (BRM) at a major bank. I have since moved on from being a Personal Banker where I managed the wealth of individual investors. Now as a BRM, I manage a portfolio of business clients and provide them with business financing solutions to help grow their respective business. The reason I made the switch was the fact that I was given greater responsibilities, and also the opportunity to learn a lot more.

Since, life is about striking a balance, and I am a strong proponent of work-life balance, I work hard over the course of the week. I sometimes keep 12-13 hour days, just so that my weekends will be a blast! In fact, I celebrate ‘TGIF’.

How I would spend a typical weekend:

1) Family time on a Saturday and/or Sunday evening eating dinner at family favourites such as having seafood at Newton Food Centre or sweating over a plate of Fried Kway Teow with chili at Zion Road Food Centre before heading off to Great World City for grocery shopping.
2) Church on a Sunday morning….keeping the Sabbath for God
3) Swim, swim, swim; a time for me to take in Vitamin D, given the fact that I spend 85% of the time behind my desk- that sure dulls the skin.
4) Read, read, read...being a current affairs buff, I always have the insatiable urge to fuel my mind with cold hard facts. Knowledge is power! One can catch me at Kinokuniya at Ngee Ann City on a sleepy Sunday afternoon burrowing my way through book after book.
5) Dining at interesting and/or new establishments with friends. I totally dig the Salmon Egg Benedict at Dan Ryan’s (Tanglin Place; Orchard Rd) that I had a couple of weeks back. I will be trying out the egg dishes at ‘Hatched’ (Evans Road) this coming weekend.
6) Exploring places with my mates- places that I have not gone to in awhile…i.e.: The Botanic Gardens!

P/S: I hope to write a recipe book, but those recipes won’t be by moi…and that’s all I am letting on. Watch this space for further updates.

This by the way was brought back by my brother after vacationing in Kuala Lumpur; Malaysia. Its such a commodity. Maybe we should not have a franchise in Singapore after all, since, its desirability is due in part to its unavailability. However, no one can dispute that K.K tastes heavenly. 10 months into my banking career.
There is purpose, and it is meaningful.
Forget money, there is more to my job than that!
Given the current economic outlook, things are still moving slowly.
However, the eternal optimist in me says that it is the same elsewhere, I just have to press on and do the best I can in my current area of work. Surely, the good times will return. Wealth management is the most glamorous area in banking! I heart my job.

I have a fantastic boss and great colleagues; they are a joy to work with. I do have some really nice clients. So really, what more can I ask for? I am contented where I am at, not in stasis but soaring to greater heights.

The key is to stay focus and keep my career objectives in sight. With some time on my hands, I will perhaps go pursue a professional course to enhance my financial knowledge, so as to remain relevant.

This was mentioned during a speech at the Convocation; in light of the damage done to the world economy, because of oversight in corporate governance. Basically, corporations have a moral not just legal obligation to fulfil; going forward.

Like the colourful display of light...seemingly in motion- mirrors my life; one that is always on the move- never in stasis.

Where do I start?

It's been a good 3 months since I last said something here. Admittedly, many things; mostly good things have happened, but i did not find the time to document them. I guess work has been an excuse for me being reticent. Then again, my career has always been at the back of my mind, whether i like it or not, it has dominated my life. In fact, I even dream about work! This is not to say i do not carve out time for myself, I am for one, a firm believer of striking a work-life balance, however, work is just simply too important to put aside!

Anyway, enough of my ramblings and moving into a succinct update of my life, thus far....

I have been with a major bank for 9 months now, I have since been confirmed, and my bond of 9 months is coming to an end, which essentially means i am free to seek out greener pastures (fyi: I still love my job). How time flies, it is hardly enviable being in the area of work i am in, given the financial crisis of mega proportions. However, being an eternal optimist, I will continue to press on regardless of how challenging times may be. In fact, i am so thankful to still have a job. I have known of people who have been asked to leave due to cost-cutting by financial institutions.

My area of work has somewhat stabilised from the fallout, but things are still slow-moving, we are far from the days of yore where my banking seniors; my mentor included, could earn as much as a 5-figure monthly salary doing what we do. I got to face it, the glory days are gone, and life is less rarefied; more down to earth.

Henceforth, I have used the down-time to upskill myself. I am currently pursuing a professional finance course (part-time) at the Singapore Management University; for banking professionals. The 3.5 month course is ending soon, and I will embark on another; something on Fund Management. I am basically creating more opportunities for myself, so that when the economy recovers, I can go places with my new found credentials.

Besides work and studies, one must be wondering whether I have a life. Well, yes! I enjoy catching up with peers in the evenings over a nice dinner at decidedly spiffy places, and perhaps adjourn to the likes of Canele to titillate my palette. I am also finding it hard to resist the temptation of stepping into Gastronomia for their cake in a box...heavenly!

Work, studies, food aside.... I have recently joined a country club; hence, I am going to make the best of it by using the gym and pool, tennis court, and perhaps a few rounds on the driving range.

I have also been burning plastic over things like shoes...i am a closet Imelda Marcos...haha. And, am also very fond of "bling-bling"...that I decided to walk into Tiffany one fine Saturday, and ended up buying a Signature 1837 Concave pendant for moi. Being a purveyor of good food (food again!)...I have no qualms about spending good money for good food. Lest you think I am a connoisseur, I am not!...I do fancy hawker fare, alas, it has got to be Newton Circus, because not only its food but her environs are my cuppa.

Life has been good, and I really am thankful. What next? I can't keep still it seems. I guess I need a vacation. I am now seriously considering a vacation in the fashion capital of the world; Paris. But before going there, I have plans to read Philosophy at Oxford University for a week over the summer (intensive but fun) and then jet set into Paris... I want to savour the experience of stepping into LV...the one at Takashimaya, just does not do it for me...(too many hoi polloi in their flip flops) Now, now...before you think I am all material boy, I am not! haha... I would love to visit the Louvre by I.M Pei (the architect I admire most; fyi he designed the headquarters of the bank I now work for; go figure) and the many museums of art and history. Enough of fantasy for now, I am a dreamer; but also very much a planner-I would have you know.

My schedule as always is packed for the next few months....life is never in stasis. Up next, the JP Morgan Corporate Challenge and also mugging for my finance papers.
Between all that, I relish taking life easy....you can catch me at Kinokuniya; mostly in the design section when I need to feed my mind and fuel my curiosity.

Feel free to holler...I can always carve out time for those dear to me.

Going forward into 2009, I cannot help but maintain a healthy sense of optimisim that it will be an even better year that holds greater promise.

Firstly, I would have gotten sufficient professional work experience at the bank. Secondly, I will be pursuing my Masters in International Political Economy in the United Kingdom.

Indeed, I am really looking forward to a fantastic 2009.

A new year...a new beginning...

I am very pleased with how things have turned out given what a temultous year 2008 has been.

Anyway, I will soon be starting work (come Jan 2009; a few more days) at a new place of work. I will still be in the area of Wealth Management at the bank, but will be at another office.

I will miss my current boss, my relationship manager colleagues and everyone else at the present place. They have truly been a great bunch; very supportive and helpful in helping me settle in. Truly, it has been 4 good months.

Nevertheless, we can always stay in touch.

I learnt; nothing in life is permanent, we have to be ready for the viscittudes of life and take things in our stride. When an opportunity comes a-knocking, you got to seize it, and move on.

Fast approaching 5 months into my career...

How time flies.

Its all about persevering, and having the faith and courage to ride out the current storm. Afterall, things will only get better. But, we can only hope that things will get better sooner and not later.

Therefore, it is always good to have a healthy sense of optimism, and I derive this from my faith. I can always rest in the knowledge that I will have the strength to overcome the obstacles that come my way. Though time at work has its ups and downs, I must not be overwhelmed so readily, instead, I must continue to portray strength in the face of adversity.

I shall therefore press on in the hope that I will be 'confirmed' when the time comes.

I strongly recommend Mussels in garlic butter sauce. The sauce makes for a great dip for everything, from the baguett to the chips. To top off the dining experience, the restaurant offers a view of a section of the Singapore River.

Dinner:Japanese at Akashi, Orchard Parade Hotel
Simply loved the Salmon with rice in tea soup...warms the soul.
The Maguro (Tuna) in the handroll was really fresh. To top off the dining experience, the staff were friendly and always wore a smile on their faces.

Good food, good company = satisfying.

Its been 1 yr and 3 months since I came back from London. It was nice having the opportunity to catch up with Nico; my dutch classmate at the London School of Economics. He is here on vacation. Well, he decided to come after hearing me speak so much of Singapore.

Also, we had the ride of our lives aboard the 'Flyer', and I had the opportunity to introduce to him local delights such as 'Hokkien Mee' (Fried Prawn Noodles), 'Char Kuay Teow' (Fried Noodles in sweet sauce), as well as 'Or Luak' (Oyster Omelette) which he truly enjoyed (as you can see from the pictures)...and to top it off- a glass of cool and refreshing 'Chendol' (Coconut, brown sugar and iced-shavings topped with red beans) to stave off the humid weather.

Indeed, time is fleeting...soon, you will have to leave, till we meet again, yar? Good Luck my friend, at the World Debates 2008 at Oxford.

There is so much in life to be thankful for. It is all a matter of perspectives, just like looking at a half empty glass and saying it is half filled; the latter being the more positive perspective.

Incidentally, I have always been one who looks at situations optimistically, hence, I can still find a reason to smile even when things can be seemingly bleak. A case in point is the current economic situation in the United States, which has far ranging consequences, i.e- spillover effect on the rest of the world.

Indeed, the economic forecast here in Singapore has been revised downwards, and this translates into smaller bonuses and dimmer hiring prospects in the financial sector.

All that being said, there is still much I can be thankful for, as I have gotten the job that I wanted. Now, all I need to do is to work hard in order to go far. Perseverance is key, afterall, many have gone before me and succeeded.

That is where I will be heading...but, more specifically to 'The City of Angles', also known as Bangkok for my second and final 'grad' trip before the commencement of my career. I will be there from 1-4 August.

It will also be my third time to the City of Angels. The beautiful city has a certain charm and aura that never fails to captivate me. Also, it possesses a certain serenity in the way people go about their daily living, and the people there are very hospitable. Truly an inviting place, Bangkok is.

For: Grand Aunt's Birthday Lunch

At SGD 22 per head, the buffet spread here was very affordable. However, if you are looking for premium grade offerings such as scallops, oysters and the likes, you got to look elsewhere, and those would probably cost more than SGD 30 per head.

Over at the Mirama Hotel International Lunch Buffet, what you mostly get is delicious regional fare that is enough to titillate my palate. The succulent braised chicken as well as the tender oxtail and leg of lamb were personal favourites.

I hope to try other International Buffet spreads such as the one at the Holiday Inn Atrium and Orchard Hotel that my grand aunt recommends.

We celebrated my uncle and aunt's 60th birthday.

It was a Hawaiian-themed birthday bash or 'Luau' as the Hawaiians would call it...Soo my Korean American cousin-in-law was the brainchild behind the themed-party.

Everyone sure had a great time as there was a convival atmosphere, great food, a free flow of Piper Heidsieck; red wine; white wine among others, and many light-hearted moments.

It is truly a 'Luau' worth remembering, in a long time to come.

Saigon is a very dynamic and engaging place, indeed, it is one of the hottest places to be in Asia.

In addition, I am certified fit to live in Saigon since, I can appreciate her way of life like her people, the food, the "notorious" traffic condition( I find it amusing actually) among other things.

I might go back there, either to work via an overseas posting by my bank or to teach English, since the Viets find it amusing when I speak English, and I am more than happy to facilitate their learning of the language.

This is as what Maslow would call- self actualisation! It is an innate desire on my part, well, once I am comfortable financially to actually move on to fulfill other higher order needs such as teaching!

Life in Vietnam was cultural immersion at its best!

Indeed, Saigon is a city of contrasts of both old-world charm and modern urban cityscape at its finest.

One moment I was in the dusty city-centre, the next, I found myself transported, albeit on a motorbike to a modern upper middle class suburb lined with manicured shrubs and trees on a wide boulevard. In it, there are rows of swanky condominiums and even a gated community with villas in it.

Saigon never fails to amuse and excite me with its plethora of sights and sounds, my perspective has been forever changed, and my mind renewed at the slew of developmental plans that are afoot, and yet her ever alluring old-world charm has a place in my heart.

My first day in Vietnam

I have much to be thankful for...but I would like to render special thanks to both Elvis (Ahn Quan) and Giang; my Viet uni mates for faithfully introducing me to the Vietnamese way of life. Thank you, bros! Till we meet, again.

Visitng Vietnam was more than a holiday, it was a cultural immersion for me. I had the opportunity to live like a Vietnamese, when I was offered accomdation at my Vietnamese school mate's home. They have been most hospitable and I truly felt like part of the family. Hey..I was even invited to Elvis' uncle's wedding!

I also got to ride on a motorbike (predominant means of transportation) as I visited different places within Saigon. The traffic in Saigon is legendary, and I do not mean that out of sarcasm. In fact, there was order in chaos, as vehicles could come at you in all directions, especially at a round-about, however, the Viet's are very patient and intuitive as they maneuver their way out of seeming chaos. Hence, there was a constant ebb and flow of traffic which does not result in massive jams.

The city is both dynamic and culturally rich. Though the French were driven out by the Vietcong from the North and many French-inspired buildings were torn down during communist rule...one can still spot subtle 'French legacies' within Saigon; such as hawkers selling French loaves with minced meat and pickeled vegetables (fusion food-Viet style) for breakfast, and the more salient french-inspired Roman Catholic cathedrals that dot the city. Many Saigonese are Catholics.

I love Vietnam; the people, its food, its culture, and even its seemingly chaotic traffic condition that somehow seems to have a certain order. I would want to visit her again...

Saigon has a motorbike population that far outnumbers that of cars. In fact, it has one of the highest number of motorbikes per capita in the world, if not the highest.

House specialty: "Samsui Ginger Chicken"

Tender, succulent, fresh- with chicken skin that glistens; the dish taste as good as it looks!

The saucer of grinded ginger in the middle of the dish greatly complements the morsels of chicken. The lettuce serves as a 'wrap' in which chicken can be placed in, and eaten like a roll. Truly delectable and very comforting, indeed.

No wonder they always have me coming back for more...this is my second time to the Soup Restaurant this month.

While waiting to sign on the dotted line at the office of the Group Human Resource Division, I decided to take in the sights from up there (floor to ceiling windows) to calm my nerves!

On your right of the image is the taller United Overseas Bank building (1 of 3 tallest buildings of similar height in Singapore; 260 Metres)...now, go figure which bank has inducted me into their payroll!

In the horizon....the giant 'ferris wheel'- The Singapore Flyer, which I will be boarding next week.

Day of reckoning...

Truly it had been a whirlwind week of sorts for me, going for one interview after another with nary a break in between for me to catch my breath and compose my thoughts!

Alas, the call came at 1030hrs, Friday, 20 June 2008...

Good morning Vernon, we are pleased to offer you a position within the bank!

I heaved a big sigh of relief and tears almost welled up in my eyes!...I know that was a little dramatic, but it is something that I truly wanted, and after 3 consecutive days of interviews, indeed, it felt like mission accomplished.

I am now officially a Management Trainee; it will be a few months of training before I become a full-fledged Associate, Personal Banker.

Next up, I will have to register myself to sit for 4 exam papers under the Capital Markets and Financial Advisory Services, which is regulated by the Monetary Authority of Singapore.

Cheers! What a day...finally got to chill along the Singapore River. A load off my mind! Interviews are draining!

I went for Round 1 of my interview with a bank. It was a 'Screening Interview'- basically, a make or break round where shortlisted candidates will move on to subsequent rounds.

I must say Round 1 went relatively well and the recruitment consultant even offered me some pointers to make my mark in the next round. Now, looking forward to Round 2.

Ties galore...

A quick check of my wardrobe found 2 ties that I currently own. However, thanks to my uncle I now have 12 new ties, albeit ties that he had used before. Nevertheless, they look relatively new and there is a Hugo Boss (the first from the left) amongst the ties he has given me. This means money saved from having to buy ties for work.

He figured that I'd be the best person to have his ties. Incidentally, he is a Senior Veep at a foreign bank here and would probably retire in a few years time, while I would be embarking on my banking career soon!

This is what we call passing on the baton...Indeed, it's a great way to start my career.

This is what I am currently unto for those of you who asked.

This book deals with economics at the global level and dicusses issues pertaining to globalisation, capitalism, international finance and the likes; basically mega issues that shape our world. Given the gravitas of issues being discussed, this book presents information that is very digestible. Therefore, I highly recommend it, given that it's written from a factual yet philosophical standpoint as oppose to it being technical or academic. Truly, a pleasant read.

I have always enjoyed the interplay of politics and economics, and how these two disciplines form the bedrock of the world we live in. In fact, in the modern world political decisions often concern economic matters, and government decisions are often influenced by economic events.

These two disciplines are personal areas of interests, and I might pursue it at a deeper level with a masters in International Political Economy in the not too distant future.

Me in 'dreamer' mode:
Had i aced my A levels, I would surely have opted to do PPE at Oxford. (For the uninitiated; PPE is the acronym for Philosophy, Politics and Economics - an undergraduate level course offered at the esteemed Oxford which first established the course).

Nonetheless, I am happy to have had the opportunity to read International Political Economy at the the LSE last summer; the closest I got to reading (studying) my dream disciplines.

What: Lunch with Mum

Mega Burger: Massive portions. Do not be deceived, the beef patty looks burnt, but it was juicy to the bite. There were onion slices, and ham and bacon as well that gave the burger that extra ommph... truly a meat lover's delight! Dish comes with lightly salted fries, and tangy coleslaw that was refreshing and appetising. Disclaimer: good to come with a good dose of healthy appetite, given its 'mega' portions.

Pesto Salmon Saute: Dish comes with a generous scoop of mashed potato and pieces of cauliflower, carrots and 2 stalks of asparagus on the side. The salmon was a bit of a disappointment though; it was a tad too cooked, hence, its natural oils (omega 3fatty acids) were sapped up- leaving the fish dried, and somewhat shrivelled. Nonetheless, the saving grace was the creamy herb-based pesto sauce that was used as a dip for the salmon. Dried salmon notwithstanding, this is definitely a balanced meal!

Editor's note: that was just so much to eat! truly a hearty and perhaps not so healthy dining experience, given the massive portions!

Of papers, a book and the goggle box

My Media Portfolio:
Besides the magazine interview with 8-Days and a couple of newspaper interviews with The Straits Times and The New Paper, I also did a studio interview with 'Good Morning, Singapore'; speaking Mandarin on national TV was truly an experience for me, since, I have always been more conversant in English.

Apart from the interviews I had done with the Media, I have also had my write-up featured in a coffee-table tome- Celebrating Libraries by the National Library Board.

I guess my foray into the Media, can be summed up in the following points.
Firstly, I am my university's student ambassador, hence, time and again I have been chosen by them to be featured in the Media. Secondly, it is a public relations excercise by the university to feature deserving students, so as to promote the university. Thirdly, my expressing myself through writing has brought me places- writer for "YouthInk"; the Straits Times and the Celebrating Libraries tome.

More importantly, through interactions with the Media, I have learnt the art of composing my thoughts and expressing myself in as crisp a manner as possible. And hopefully what I say can inspire people; especially students, to make the most of their life and achieve to the best of their abilities.

My take:
I guess with great exposure comes great responsibility. Enjoying visibility through the Media has made me adopt a higher sense of self-monitoring (Psychological term) which, essentially means that I am now more aware of my surroundings and that my deeds and words will be more closely watched, perhaps?

Truth be told, I am still the same ol' me.

The media is powerful and its influences have far reaching consequences. It shapes norms, perceptions and how we live our lives.

Remember, take everything with a pinch of salt; nothing is what it seems. The lesson we can all take away from both the clips is NOT to believe what you want to believe, BUT rather, we are to look beneath the veneer of things; dig dipper in order to have a better understanding.

Never look at things at its most superficial level; its surface. Always have an analytical mind to go beyond even the most mundane of things, and you will never fail to be amazed at the immense possibilities.

I am Mr. Consultant; the 'go to' guy, but I do it pro bono and out of goodwill with no strings attached. My peers are thankful. Indeed, the world will be a happier place if people are less calculative and more helpful. Well, I am doing my bid.

I am Mr. Mugger, who happens to be pacing himself well, so as not to suffer a 'burn out'. Actually, I am enjoying what I do because I am reading subjects I have passion for!

Mr Happy
I am Mr. Happy, exams are coming but my morale is exceedingly high, as I am graduating really soon. My exams are scheduled to end on the 4th of June, thereafter, I hope to go for a short gateaway before embarking on my career. Hmm...where will it be? What: good ol' hawker fare
Where: Newton Food Centre

BBQ Chicken wings- crisp at the tip and mostly moist and tender to the bite
Oyster Omelet- the generous dollop of large and fresh oysters proved heavenly with mostly egg and minimal serving of starch
Satay- sweet and tender skewered meat with morsels of fatty bits, served with peanut gravy that came with crushed peanuts- giving it a pleasant texture
Chicken rice- winsome combination of fragrant rice and generous portions of succulent breast meat with skin that gave it an almost gelatinous consistency.

My palate was titillated, and henceforth, on cloud 9.

Diversity in education landscape good

THE Government has a great track record of attracting the best foreign institutions to operate here.

So I was a bit puzzled about its decision to welcome Curtin University.

Firstly, Curtin does not feature anywhere near the top in academic ranking tables such as the Times Higher Education Supplement.

Secondly, unlike other foreign institutions here like Insead, a business school, it is not world-renowned.

Then I realised that the decision was not without merit: It will offer diversity to our education landscape.

Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, the former Minister for Education, once said: ‘There’s something about growing up in diversity that’s very powerful in education.’

If more diversified universities lead to more graduates, that is a good thing.

After all, more education can only lead to the betterment of society.

What next?

Life has finally slowed down (to simply mugging; typically Singaporean). I am done with enjoying what university life has to offer. Also, I am done giving my valedictory speech at the mini commencement 2 weeks ago, and I have been honoured with the title; 'Friend of the university'.

Surely, I have led a very rich and enriching student life; representing my university in business and finance competitions, emceeing at major school functions, playing the role of student ambassador/spokesperson for school amongst many other things. Indeed, I have achieved and learned much.

Life has been good especially in the area of academia, and my university has given me countless opportunities to grow to become a professional in every setting and be primed to take on the challenges of the ever-changing economic landscape. Clearly, I have been teased out of my cocoon and have metamorphosised into a confident individual equipped with the necessary transferable skills that I have picked up from engaging in various activities. I guess the highlight of my many achievements would have to be the interview I did with The New Paper last Wed. It is akin to an icing on the cake; the feather in my hat! It is always a wonderful experience to be able to share with people; in this case it was a journalist- my many achievements, and hopefully I would be able to serve as an inspiration to others and aid them in achieving beyond possibilities.

That being said, I am moving into the next phase; the mugger phase. I know it does not seem apt to term it in that manner, but that is really how it is. Essentially, I am left with another 6 weeks before my final exams and another 9 weeks before I graduate from university. Therefore, I am going to make the best use of time to attain as good a result I can possibly achieve. But surely, I am not able to do it alone, and I am glad I have someone up in heaven who cares and will provide me with the wisdom and strength to do my best. I need only give my best, pray and trust in my almighty God. He listens to my prayers and will surely provide me a way. I give of my best!

I guess that is all for now, do wish me luck as I embark on my next phase. We all need some luck, indeed, luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.

In order to increase the number of hits to your blog or website through the use of search engines, and better understand how you can reach out to more people; it is essential to understand the abovementioned technical terms.

In short, use effective key words or tags in your blog/website so that a webcrawl can easily trawl the information and place your blog/website at the top of a search in search engines like Google, Yahoo and the likes.

Indeed, if you want your blog or website to come up at the top of a search, use effective keywords like F1 (Formula 1) when you are talking about the F1 races instead of saying (car racing) which is rather ambiguous.

However, at the same time, one has to contend with a fight for top spot from the big guys, i.e: the original website that features F1 racing, is probably also going to be well connected; thanks in part to sponsors and adverts.

Anyway, the trick to get around that is to link your website or blog to as many related sites coupled with the key word(s), as the inter-relatedness of topics or subject can potentially propel your site to the top of a search or somewhere near the top.

Eventually, to know how well your blog/website is doing in terms of the number of page hits it has among other things, one will have to engage in web analytics through the use of various tools. One of the most common tool would be the counter; incidentally, its something I do not already have (in the works actually; got to practise what I preach, yar?).

A survey by economists at Swiss bank UBS lists Oslo, London and Copenhagen as the three most costly cities, while Dublin has crept ahead to fourth place.

Among Asian cities, Tokyo is the most expensive, followed by Seoul, Singapore and Hong Kong.

As for those who bring home the most money after taxes, it is the inhabitants of Swiss city Zurich. Excluding housing costs, Zurich residents also have the highest spending power in net wages.

At the other half of the chart, Jakarta residents get the least for the amount of work they put in.

A word of advice to my Indonesian school mates, stay on in Singapore after you graduate, as you are more valued here than back home in Jakarta.

There are a few things in life I am truly passionate about:

And Japanese food is one of them (besides writing, international relations, F1...)

I must get my Sushi; more specifically Sashimi fix at least twice in a month, and I would usually patronise Sushi Tei; its prices are less punishing on my coffers.

Indeed, I have yet to savour authentic Japanese fare here in Singapore (read: more pricey). I hope to do it at the likes of Shiraishi, Keyaki and Inagiku ;which for now, are out of my 'student' budget. Nevertheless, I will patronise them soon enough, which reminds me, 2.5 months to graduation!

Yes! Nothing makes me more happy than....(2nd time in 2 weeks! this one is to celebrate my brother's recent achievement at his exams)
